The invention relates to a kit for children's recreational and useful furniture, consisting of two box-like standing columns, each comprising two side parts which are connected to one another by interposed cross struts or spacing walls and have the devices for supporting one or more table tops or shelves arranged between two standing columns. To increase the stability of the various combinations and to connect the elements securely, provision is made for the standing columns to exhibit a high degree of resistance to toppling owing to a large standing area, and for in each case two columns to be connected to one another via interposed table tops or shelves having plug-in connectors which can be plugged into corresponding receptacles in the columns, supporting projections or crosspieces or partition walls being engaged at the rear by fixing projections or crossbars or strips.
