A METHOD OF AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING DIGITAL SIGNALS In transmitting digital signals using so-called pulse stuffing, plesiochronous data items (SD) are transmitted in a main channel of a sum signal (SS) channel as synchronous data and, together with an item of stuffing information, in an auxiliary channel of a sum signal (SS) channel as additional data. The stuffing information consists of phase words (PW) which contain, in digital form, the phase relationship between the sum signal (SS) and the plesiochronous data items (PD).
