The universal shaft joint (4) comprises a first journal (12), which is mounted in a hollow head (9) of one shaft end with a through assembly hole (18) for the insertion of the second journal (15), which passes through the first journal (12), the said first journal having a cut-out (13) for a flattened end piece (14) of the second shaft. This flattened end piece is held pivotably in the first journal (12) by means of the second journal (15). A sleeve (19) with part of the surface of a spherical head (21) on its outer side, is pushed onto the hollow head (9) with a tight fit. A second hollow head (24) connected to the flattened shaft end piece (14) fits over the spherical head (21) and carries a ring seal (28) which surrounds the spherical head (21) at its largest diameter. The diametral plane (22) of the spherical head (21) runs through the point (23) of intersection of the two journals (12, 15). Fixed to the front end of the second hollow head (24) is a scraper ring (29), this consisting of gun metal and sliding on the hard-chrome-plated surface of the spherical head (21). <IMAGE>
