PURPOSE:To ensure the stabilization of a head drive voltage without increasing the size and cost of a device, by a method wherein, the number of thermal energy conversion bodies to he simultaneously driven is detected on the basis of inputted recording data, and accordingly a voltage generated by a power source is variably set. CONSTITUTION:In the printing of a character 'A', this is converted to a dot pattern for lengthwise one column, and this pattern is transferred to a driver 6A on a recording head 6 in preparation for recording. Then, the number of recording dots in the one column is calculated, and a recording dot number-to- correction voltage value conversion table prestored in a ROM is referred to. Thereafter, by setting the referred constant in a D/A converter 32, a voltage VD is set. By driving a pulse generator 34, a recording for the lengthwise one column is carried out. A carriage 5 is traveled by the amount of one dot in preparation for recording a second column. In this manner, by correcting the voltage reduction in signal wiring, the fluctuation of a voltage to be applied to a head caused by the change of a recording pattern is eliminated, and a recording quality is stabilized. |
