The position of a fuel injection pump rack 2 is determined by a cylinder 13 linked to the rack and the position of a gas fuel control valve 27 is determined by an operator controlled lever 10 which also linked to a piston 16 in the cylinder. When gas is not supplied to the gas duct 26 the spring 19 maintains the piston 16 abutting one end of the cylinder 13 so the lever 10 determines the rack position. When gas is to be supplied, lubricating oil under pressure is supplied to a groove 24 in the cylinder housing 14 and a groove 21 in the cylinder 13 tends to be maintained between the groove 24 and a drain groove 25 when the piston 16 and the valve 27 are moved by the lever 10 to vary the flow of gas fuel, the injection of liquid fuel being thus maintained substantially constant.
