A container with threaded neck is fitted with a metal screw cap with an outward curving section, adjoining the radially inward flanged lower edge. The recess formed above the lower edge receives the upper protruding edge of a plastics ring. The lower part of the plastics ring is joined to it supper edge by a zone of reduced strength. It has an oblique lip which slopes inwards. The plastic ring has an outward projecting edge in its upper part. The lower part has no outward projections so that the ring has a Z-shaped cross-section.
