An overload protective device for an electrolytic cell comprises a flexible current-carrying lead 2 which is soldered to a conductive member 7 and biased by a spring 9 so as to separate the lead from the member when the solder melts due to heating caused by excess current. The lead 2 carries a projecting member 3 which is soldered in a recess 16 in the member 7 which may have a portion of reduced cross-section serving to increase the heating effect in the region of the soldered connection. The upper end of the lead 2 may be secured to a copper rod 1 secured to a member 13 carrying a graphite anode 15, with the spring 9 extending between insulators 8 secured to the lead 2 and the anode support 10. |
