PURPOSE:To inoculate cast iron with good yield of an inoculant in a short time, by fitting the linear inoculant as dividing into plural pieces downward at the specific angle on inner wall of a ladle in the case of the inoculation of the molten cast iron in a ladle. CONSTITUTION:The inoculant containing Mg and Si as main component as the inoculant for modifying flaky graphite by spheroidizing graphite and deoxidizing the cast iron, is worked to line-like and the linear inoculant 4 is fitted in the refractory layer 2 in the ladle 1. In this case, the necessary quantity of the inoculant 4 is fitted under condition of covering the steel plate or steel pipe to plural pieces of inoculants, from holes 3 arranged at the refractory 2 of the ladle 1 to downward at <=60 deg. angle to the horizontal direction. By pouring the molten cast iron in this ladle 1, Mg and Si as the inoculant, especially Mg is reacted with the molten cast iron with high yield, to produce the spheroidal graphite cast iron or flaky graphite cast iron modified shape is produced.
