The foundation (1) has, in a known manner, an underground part (4) which is in the form of a column and continues above the ground into a base (6), on the upper side of which there exits a steel profile (7) which is connected to a mast upright (2), or continues the same, and is embedded in the foundation. In the region of the exit location, the base (6) comprises segments (8) which are separated from one another and from the steel profile (7) and the downwardly adjoining regions of base (6) and foundation (1) by expansion joints (9) which have a vapour-tight and moisture-tight, permanently compliant filling, preferably of tar/polyurethane, to which sand and/or quartz is admixed. By virtue of this arrangement, oscillations produced by alternating current in the mast upright (2) are damped strongly at the exit point, with the result that the formation of cracks as a result of mechanical oscillations is eliminated. Moreover, the formation of cracks as a result of heat expansion is also prevented. <IMAGE>
