PURPOSE:To continuously produce the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for dyes, pigments, resins, etc., in high purity and yield, by aminating o- or p-dichlorobenzene in the presence of a catalyst using a tubular flow reactor. CONSTITUTION:A tubular flow reactor is supplied with an aqueous solution of ammonia containing dissolved copper compound catalyst (e.g. copper oxide) and with o- or p-dichlorobenzene heated at 180-240 deg.C to convert the chlorine group to amino group. The reaction product solution extracted from the reactor is added with an inorganic base (e.g. potassium hydroxide) and heated to distill out ammonia, water, unreacted o- or p-dichlorobenzene and by-products. After removing insoluble substances from the residue, the objective compound is extracted with an amine at 40-100 deg.C. |
