PURPOSE:To print the symbol of dot constitution which has an blank part between the arrays of dots by controlling a controller so that many light projec tion sources which project light on the arrangement positions of respective arrays emit light selectively. CONSTITUTION:When the distance between the image formation positions of the light projection sources 13 and 14 is denoted as (p) as the half of the image formation circle diameter of a light emitting element 9 is denoted as (d), the light emitting elements 9 of a light emission source 10 are made to emit light selectively and associatively with the movement of a film 1 and the light emitting elements 9 of a light emission element 9 are made to emit light selectively while delayed behind the light emission of the light emission source 10 by the number of pulses of an encoder 15 corresponding to a film movement quantity (p+d) or (p-d). A printed symbol of dot constitution is therefore so formed that dots formed with the light of the light emission source 11 overlap with blank parts of arrays of dots formed with the light of the light emission source 10. Consequently, the blank parts are eliminated and a bar code to which symbol is read mechanically is given accurate information.
