It has hitherto been possible to apply mechanically to packs only material strips provided with a self-adhesive coating and with a carrier paper. Non-self-adhesive material strips have hitherto been fastened to packs manually. There is to be provided an apparatus for affixing material strips to packs, which makes it possible to affix non-self-adhesive material strips at any points on the pack. This is achieved by the extraction of material strips from a magazine and the application of an adhesive or glue to the material strips (2), for example by a glue-coating nozzle (5), before the material strip (2) is affixed to the packs (12) by means of a pressure device (6) consisting of two rams (7) movable in opposition to one another perpendicularly to the transport plane of the packs (12). The application of glue can take place in a controlled manner, so that an affixation of the material strips so as to achieve a projecting length in relation to the packs (12) is also possible. The material strips can subsequently also be designed as suspension cards and be printed on on both sides. <IMAGE>
