The invention relates to an apparatus for winding a spiral-wound gasket from a metallic sealing strip and a sealant strip, with a driven winding device which has, first of all, a winding pulley and, in the winding pulley, a locating slot for the end of the metallic sealing strip. A second winding pulley is associated with the first. It is arranged coaxially to the first pulley and provided with a locating slot corresponding to the locating slot in the first pulley. The two winding pulleys can be moved towards one another in the axial direction in accordance with the width of the metallic sealing strip and away from one another as far as a removal spacing. The metallic sealing strip is inserted into the locating slots in the two winding pulleys and the spiral-wound gasket can be released by moving the winding pulleys apart. <IMAGE>
