Installation for introducing, through a lock, pourable or free-flowing solid material to be conveyed from a store tank which contains a batch of this material to be conveyed and can be connected to a metering device for the material to be conveyed, which functions in a depressurised state, via a lock arrangement into the air current of an air conveyor line, the lock arrangement (2) having at least one lock chamber, which is essentially a tubular-cylindrical body with vertical walls (4) and is connected, at the lower end (5), via a drivable first closure element (7) to the air conveyor line (10) and, at the upper end (6), via a second closure element (8), which can be driven in phase opposition, to the store tank (9) and the latter being arranged as an intermediate tank, which can be evacuated to a depressurised state and is closed on all sides, between the metering device (11), which is designed with a continuously conveying conveying-metering element (12), and the lock chamber (3), which is designed so as to be able to be filled or emptied in a cyclically discontinuous manner, and method for operating the installation. <IMAGE>
