PURPOSE:To easily take a test measurement before actual measuring operation without using any detector on a shaft surface to be measured actually by installing a light emitting body for laser light so that it can be slide on the opposite surface of a reflecting mirror and detecting its slide. CONSTITUTION:A space is formed almost in the lower half part of a main body 4, a sliding frame 31 is fitted slidably therein, and the laser 14 is fitted therein through a support frame 32 fitted in an integrally movable state. Consequently, a fixed ring 3 to which the reflecting mirror 5 is fitted and a fixed ring 2 provided to the main body 4 are fitted on the surface of the shaft 1 to be measured actually and the laser 14 is slide in the main body 4 through a screw 34 and an elastic member 35 before the torsion of the shaft 1 is measured actually in said state; while the quantity of its movement is measured by a micrometer 38, the electric output of a photodetection sensor 20 corresponding to the quantity of movement of the meter 38 is detected to find a test curve previously. Then, the laser 14 is fixed without changing the arrangement state between the main body 4 and mirror 5 and an actual measurement is taken. The obtained electric output is contrasted with the test curve and analyzed to find the quantity of the shaft torsion.
