PURPOSE:To obtain the titled highly active tin oxide-alumina mixed powder at a low cost by mixing a mixed soln. of a tin salt and an Al salt in water and/or an org. solvent with an aq. alkaline soln. and/or an alkaline org. soln., and drying and baking the obtained mixed sol of tin hydroxide and Al hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:A tin salt and an Al salt are dissolved in water and/or an org. solvent such as ethanol to prepare a mixed soln. of the tin salt and the Al salt. Then an aq. alkaline soln. such as aq. Ammonia and/or an alkaline org. soln. (e.g., an alkali-ethanol soln.) are mixed into the mixed soln. to prepare the mixed sol of tin hydroxide and Al hydroxide. The mixed sol is separated from the solvent by filtration, centrifugal separation, etc., dried, and baked at 300-1,000 deg.C. Consequently, uniformly dispersed and highly active tin oxide- alumina mixed powder with less secondary flocculation is obtained.
