PURPOSE:To execute prescribed correction even in case a reagent does not include a blank part or the characteristic of the reagent is affected when dusts stick to the optical system by keeping the output of a photodetecting element for automatic gain control to detect a reference part for white-correction constant. CONSTITUTION:A pure-white-correction reference plate m' is set in an inspection path 4 to prohibit the automatic gain control action of an automatic gain control circuit 6, and its gain is kept constant. And an output from an image sensor 3 is read out into the A/D-converter 7 of a bit correcting circuit 15. Accordingly, an output from the converter 7 is read in a distortion coefficient ROM 10 via the first selector 9. In the ROM 10, a distortion correction coefficient is obtained corresponding to an address which of the input data (distortion coefficient) of each one of the bits from the image sensor 3, and the result is outputted to a RAM 12 via the second selector 11. The RAM 12 stores the distortion correction coefficient corresponding to each one of the bits from the sensor 3. Thereafter the reference plate m' is removed, and the output of a pure-white correcting signal is stopped to start the operation of the circuit 6.
