NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 represents aryl or heteroaryl; R2 and R3 represent H or alkyl or R2 and R3 may link together to form a ring; R4 is hydrocarbon group). EXAMPLE:N-[1-(Phenyl) ethenyl]-N-chloroaceto-2',6'-dimethyl-anilide. USE:A herbicide exhibiting superior activity against various weeds growing in a paddy field, farmland, etc. with application of low concentration without any phytotoxicity. It exhibits superior herbicidal effect especially against barn yard grass of gramineous weed. PREPARATION:A Schiff base compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a chloroaceto halogenide expressed by the formula ClCH2COX (X is halo gen atom) in a solvent such as N,N-dimethyl formamide at -20-150 deg.C to obtain the compound expressed by formula I. |
