PURPOSE:To attain arithmetic between variable density picture data and picture processing such as data conversion by a mask value efficiently by providing a picture bus including at least one of the 2nd picture data bus comprising 1-bit and plural picture memory modules. CONSTITUTION:a carry bit generated as a result of arithmetic between pictures by a picture processing processor 45 is transferred by using a 1-bit picture data bus 35 and is written in a 1-bit picture memory 63 so as to ensure an 8-bit picture data bus 34 and an 8-bit picture memory 54, then an optional pattern display is attained in parallel with the arithmetic between picture elements. In such a case, if a binary pattern such as a character or a cursor is stored in a picture memory 64 in pairs with a picture memory 53, the read output of the binary pattern of the picture memory 64 is designated together with the read output of the picture data of the picture memory 53 and the input to the monitor controller 47 is designated, then the overlay display between the picture and binary pattern is attained in parallel with the arithmetic between picture elements.
