PURPOSE:To enable an actuator with small size, lightweight and employing a practical type hydrogen-occluded alloy to be obtained by making an operating shaft hollow so as to form an atmosphere exchange passage for communicating a chamber, in which the hydrogen-occluded alloy is enclosed, with the outside, and by providing said shaft with a blocking means to block said passage. CONSTITUTION:The inside of an enclosure 1 is divided into the first chamber 1a in which a hydrogen-occluded alloy 2 is enclosed, and the outer second chamber 2a. A return spring 7 is located between a plate 6 and a cap 4 in a state in which said spring is compressed, and further, the plate 6 is energized by said spring 7 in the direction a bellows 5 expands. In addition, one end of a hollow operating shaft 8, including an atmosphere exchange passage 8' therein, is joined to the central part of the plate 6. And further, the other end of said shaft 8 is provided with a blocking means to block said passage 8', such as a pipe joint 10 in which a check valve 9 is enclosed and an operating rod 11.
