PURPOSE:To produce metallurgical coke, having a high strength, and suitable to a raw material for blast furnaces with high efficiency, by placing a heat insulation sheet on the top surface layer part of a molded stamped cake in the interior of a carbonization chamber, and carbonizing the stamped cake. CONSTITUTION:A heat insulation sheet is placed on the top surface layer part of a stamped cake 12 in addition to the increased bulk specific gravity of the conventional stamp charging method to suppress the expansion of the upper part in the stamped cake 12 and further suppress the coke level by suitable contration on completion of carbonization. Thus, the free expansion of the top surface layer part is suppressed with the heat insulation sheet, and the formation of sponge coke having a low strength is prevented to give the aimed coke having a high strength.
