PURPOSE:To selectively restrain fog without deteriorating sensitivity and image density by processing a silver halide photosensitive material in the presence of an org. compd. to be deprived of a development inhibition action by the oxidation reduction reaction with the oxidation product of a developing agent. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide photosensitive material is formed by incorporating the org. compd. (antifoggant) deprived of development inhibition action by the oxidation reduction reaction with the oxidation product of a developing agent, in one or more of the silver halide emulsion layer, a coloring material layer, an undercoat layer, and the protective layer formed on a support. Preferable antifoggants are represented by formula I in which a1, b1 are each OH or amino; Z1 is a group of formula II, R1 being H or a substituent; n1 is 0 or an integer of 1-5; Y1 is a group having one or more mercapto or unsubstd. cyclic amino groups.
