A holder for a bobbin for releasing yarn to e.g. a weaving machine is fitted with a replaceable liner made of woven wire mesh to provide a porous surface with high points pref. about 1.5 mm apart against which the flying yarn can brush as it leaves the holder. The tubular liner may be fabricated from flat metallic cloth by conversion to a cylindrical form with a longitudinal seam to join the ends of a panel corresponding in length to the circumference of the liner.
