<p>PURPOSE:To manufacture of sufficiently-impermeable thin grooved separator for a fuel cell by stacking several expansive graphite sheets impregnated with water or an organic solvent and then preliminarily molding the stacked sheets, followed by drying the molded body before it is subjected to pressure molding. CONSTITUTION:A plate-like expansive graphite sheet with a bulk density of 0.1-1.0g/cm<3> is formed by molding expansive graphite particles by pressing or pressure rolling. Next, after a member with proper dimensions is prepared from the above plate-like expansive graphite sheet, the member is impregnated with 5-40vol% of water. Thus prepared impregnated members are stacked and preliminarily molded with a pressure of 100-200kg/cm<2> and then the molded body is dried. After that, the thus dried molded body is pressed using an under punch with grooves, thereby making a grooved separator for a fuel cell. The above addition of water facilitates the flowing of expansive graphite particles during pressure molding thereby preventing any crack from occuring in the separator. Furthermore, it improves the orientation of expansive graphite particles, thereby achieving sufficient impermeability even for a thin separator.</p> |
