PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent wear resistance and electromagnetic conversion characteristic and good scuffing resistance by forming a lubricating layer contg. the silane selected from specific two groups of modified silanes on the surface of a thin Co-Ni ferromagnetic metallic film contg. oxygen. CONSTITUTION:The silane modified by an alkyl group and fatty acid ester group and the silane modified by a perfluoroalkyl group; for example, the silane of which the alkyl group is expressed by CmH2m+1, the fatty acid ester group by CmH2m+1COO and the perfluoroalkyl group by CnH2n+1 and m, n are respectively preferably >=7 and the modified silane expressed by the general formula (CnF2n+1)p(CmH2m+1)qSi(OR)4-p-q in which p, q are indicated by 1 or 2 and R is OCH3, OC2H5, O5H11, etc. are deposited by evaporation on the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 formed by depositing a Co-Ni alloy by evaporation on the substrate 1 in an O2-contg. atmosphere to form about 10-500X10<-8> g/cm<2> lubricating layer 3 thereon. The magnetic recording medium which has a small coefft. of dynamic friction, excellent scuffing resistance, excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic and prevents the decrease in the output of the reproduced signal is thus obtd. |
