PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density recording medium having excellent running property and good winding style by providing an intermediate layer contg. polyether acrylate having a specific mol.wt. or below and radiation polymerizable monomer at a specific proportion between a non-magnetic substrate having surface roughness of a specific value or above and a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A paint contg. polyether acrylate having <=5,000mol.wt. and 5-50wt% radiation polymerizable monomer by the sum of said acrylate and the monomer is coated between a non-magnetic substrate having >=0.01mu surface roughness and a magnetic layer such as a thin ferromagnetic metallic film or the like. Electron rays, UV rays, etc. are irradiated thereto after coating to form the intermediate layer having <=0.01mu surface roughness and 0.1-1.5mu thickness after curing. The magnetic layer is then formed thereon. The magnetic recording medium having adequate surface smoothness, good running property, good winding style, excellent video sensitivity, C/N, etc., high adhesion strength of the magnetic layer and excellent durability is thus obtd.
