PURPOSE:To improve stimulable afterglow characteristics without lowering stimulated emission brightness, by incorporating a specified quantity of calcium in a bivalent europium-activated barium fluorohalide phosphor contg. a sodium halide. CONSTITUTION:Barium fluoride, a barium halide, a calcium halide, a sodium halide and a europium compd. are mixed together in such a proportion as to satisfy stoichiometrically the relationship of formula I ( wherein X, X' are each Cl, Br, I; 0<a<=10<-1>; 0<b<=2.0; 0<x<=0.2). The mixture is dried, crushed packed in a quartz boat, and calcined in a weakly reducing atmosphere to obtain the desired bivalent europium-activated barium fluorohalide phosphor of formula II. A stimulable phosphor layer contg. the phosphor is provided on a support to obtain a radiation image converting panel giving an image of excellent quality.
