PURPOSE:To increase the extent of variation in focal length by composin an optical element of an elastic body and a member which has an opening for deforming its optical surface by projecting or sinking the elastic body, and forming a Young's modulus distribution on or near the optical surface. CONSTITUTION:The optical element consists of a cylindrical container 1 with the circular opening part 2, the transparent elastic body 3, and a movable part 4 which is made of an optically transparent parallel flat plate. When pressure is applied to the elastic body 3 through the movable part 4, part of the elastic body 3 projects convexly from the opening part 2 according to the applied pressure. Further, when negative pressure is applied to the elastic body 3 through the movable part 4, the elastic body 3 forms a concave lens at the opening part 2. Thus, a desired optical surface shape is formed of part of the elastic body 3 at the opening part 2 according to the external force impressed to the movable part 4 of the container 1. |
