PURPOSE:To obtain a thermoplastic resin composition giving a molded article having high strength and elastic modulus and extremely low surface resistivity, by using carbon fiber having high crystallinity and high orientation degree as a reinforcing material. CONSTITUTION:(A) Carbon fibers having a tissue structure characterized by the plural carbon layers arranged essentially parallel to the fiber axis, and arranged concentrically in the cross-section, are blended with (B) chips of a thermoplastic resin (polyacetal resin, polyolefin resin, polyamide resin or polyester resin) at a weight ratio (A/B) of 20/80-70/30 by dry-blending, and the mixture is charged in an extruder, extruded in the form of a strand, and cut into resin chips to obtain the objective resin composition. The carbon fiber can be manufactured by the vaporphase growth process comprising the high-temperature thermal cracking of a hydrocarbon (preferably benzene or napthalene) at 900-1,300 deg.C. The reinforcing effect can be further increased by using a graphite fiber obtained by the graphitization of the resultant carbon fiber at 2,000-3,500 deg.C.
