The invention concerns a machine for compressing and packaging bales of compressible material; this machine essentially comprises a press plate 9 which is carried by pivoting means 17, a mobile box section 18 provided with a loading hopper 21 and driven by jacks 22, a drawer driven by a jack and carrying another press plate 25 by the use of pivoting means. In the application to the packaging of loose wool or wool in fleeces, the machine according to the invention is horizontally fastened to a movable platform 2, in order to be transported to the wool collection locations; the wool, loose or in fleeces, is loaded into the hopper 21 for the purpose of making up compressed bales, these bales then being transported to a processing factory. <IMAGE>
