摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the titled photoconductive member of total environment type having stabilized electric, optical and photoconductive characteristics at all times and also having excellent photosensitive characteristics and optical fatigue resistance on the long wave side by a method wherein a substance which controls photoconductivity is contained in the first layer region of a photoreceptive layer, and carbon atoms are contained in the photoreceptive layer. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptive layer 102 has the layer construction wherein the first layer region 103 conposed of an amorphous material a-Ge(Si, H, X), containing Ge atoms and one or more of Si atoms, hydrogen atoms and halogen atoms, as occasion demands, and the photoconductive second layer region 104 composed of a-Si(H, X) are successively laminated. The Ge atoms to be contained in the first layer region 103 are contained in the first layer region in such a manner that they will be continuously and uniformly distributed in the layer thickness direction of the first layer region and in the orientation direction in parallel with the surface of a supporting member 101. In this photoconductive member 100, the substance C which controls conductive characteristics is contained at least in the first layer region 103, and the desired conductive characteristics are given to the first layer region 103.
