PURPOSE:To obtain acetone from methanol, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, capable of producing acetone, using methanol as a carbon source, collecting acetone. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, capable of producing acetone, is cultivated using methanol as a carbon source. Acetone is then collected from the culture. The bacterium to be used belongs to the genus Pseudomonas, is capable of producing acetone, for example, Pseudomonas extorquens NCIB9399, Pseudomonas rosea NCIB10597, Protaminobacter ruber ATCC8457, Protaminobacter ruber NCIB2879, Protaminobacter ruber subsp. machidanus ATCC21611, Pseudomonas extorquens A-1349, etc. may be cited as the bacterium to be used.
