PURPOSE:To utilize the storage capacity of an optical disc without waste even if picture information and its retrieved data length are an undefined length by storing the picture information from the head address of a storage device and storing its managing information from an end address or storing it conversely. CONSTITUTION:A CPU12 reads a data from an IPA storage area 19a and an MPA storage area 19b on an optical disc 19 by using an optical disc device 22, the newest IPA (picture storage head address) and the MPA (retrieved data storage end address) are stored respectively in storage areas 18a, 18b in an RAM18, reads the retrieved data on the optical disc 19 and stores it into the RAM18. When compressed information for one page's share is stored in a page buffer 14, the CPU12 calculates the length of the picture information by the last address of the buffer 14 and subtracts the result of calculation l from the content of the IPA storage area 18a (HA). The CPU12 forms the retrieved data to be registered by the retrieved code and the HA, calculates its length M, and the result of addition of the length M and the content of the MPA storage area 18b (MPA+M) and the HA are compared. When the (MPA+M) is smaller than the HA, the occupancy is displayed by a display device 24.
