PURPOSE:To provide titled binder suitable for tobacco filter, ink-absorbing core of marking pen, etc., curable at room temperature in a short time, comprising a lower fatty acid ester of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol. CONSTITUTION:The objective binder comprising a lower fatty acid ester of 2,2- dimethyl-1,3-propanediol of formula (R and R' are each methyl or ethyl) prepared by the reaction between (A) 1mol of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol and (B) 2-4mol of acetic acid and/or propionic acid in the presence of (C) an azeotropic solvent with water (e.g., hexane) and an esterifying catalyst (e.g., hydrochloric acid). This binder should be used in an amount of 1-20wt% based on the weight of fiber.
