This attachment element (10) is suitable in particular for attaching an additional car carpet in a motor vehicle equipped with a velour fitted carpet. For this purpose, the attachment element (10) has on the underside of a plate (12) a corkscrew like screw element (26) which can be screwed into the velour fitted carpet. Formed onto the upper side of the plate (12) is a connecting piece (28) which is oval or elliptical in cross-section and on which a closure component (32) is rotatably mounted. An additional car carpet which is to be attached in a motor vehicle with the aid of this attachment element (10) is suitably provided with an annular eyelet which is constructed to correspond to the connecting piece (28) in shape so that it can be plugged over the connecting piece without a large degree of play. After the attachment element (32) is rotated through 90 DEG , the additional car carpet is held securely on the floor of the car. <IMAGE>
