A catalyst for the conversion of carbon monoxide and steam in sulfur-containing gases into carbon dioxide and hydrogen, comprising oxides and/or sulfides of the elements cobalt and/or nickel or molybdenum, an alkali metal salt and a carrier composed of magnesium aluminium spinel, the catalyst molding having an annular, starshaped or clover leaf-shaped cross-section, and differing from a spherical or cylindrical shape in that its cross-sectional area is smaller than the circle which circumscribes it. |
