The process for prepasteurising infected liquids, in particular sewage sludge, is characterised in that one or more delay vessels are divided by a membrane into two separate chambers. The total vessel volume can as a result be used twice at the same time. The process is distinguished in particular in that if two vessels are used, a continuous passage process is achieved. The process is of great use to the economy, because it reduces the investment costs of a pasteurisation plant to a level which enables it to be used even in relatively small waste water treatment plants. By this means, a sanitary improvement of the overall sewage sludge situation can be improved with low financial expenditure. A further benefit lies in the fact that with the exact separation of treated and untreated media the process offers the best guarantee of success.
