To avoid the bandwidth being too wide and for error-free hue and saturation signal transmission, the picture elements are impressed once directly on the half-waves or periods of an alternating current, the voltage value being included in the amplitude of the half-wave or period. The hue and saturation value is also transmitted serially or in parallel with an alternating current of the same or different frequencies. This prevents the phase errors occurring with quadrature modulation.
