PURPOSE:To produce a porous glass having high bulkiness and narrow pore size distribution, by using a metal alkoxide as a raw material, hydrolyzing the alkoxide to obtain a sol, adding spherical silica having uniform particle diameter to the sol and gelatinizing, drying and calcining the mixture. CONSTITUTION:For example, ethanol and ammonia water are added to tetraethoxysilane to obtain monidisperse spherical silica particles having a diameter of about 50Angstrom . The particles are mixed with a solution produced by hydrolyzing tetraethoxysilane with hydrochloric acid and the mixture is gelatinized, dried and calcined to obtain a porous glass. A porous glass having high bulkiness, containing pores having diameter of several tens - several thousand Angstrom and having narrow pore size distribution can be produced by this process. |
