PURPOSE:To prevent internal short circuit between positive and negative electrodes caused by zinc dendrite which grows from a negative zinc plate during charge by placing nonwoven fabric attached with nickel powder together with a separator between a positive plate and a negative plate. CONSTITUTION:In the figure, 1 shows a positive plate such as a sintered nickel hydroxode electrode and 3 shows a zinc negative plate formed by coating a current collector comprising a metal net with a mixture of zinc oxide and a binder. When nonwoven fabric 10 comprising nylon fiber or polypropylene fiber attached with nickel powder is placed between separator groups 8, 8' and 9, zinc dendrite passed through a film separator 9 contacts nickel powder on the nonwoven fabric 10, generates hydrogen gas on the surface of nickel powder to convert zinc into zinc oxide which dissolves in an electrolyte. Therefore, internal short circuit caused by contact of zinc dendrite passed through the separator 8 to the positive plate can be prevented. |
