In a method for controlling a pneumatically driven annular striker, a piston (3) situated in a cylinder is moved back and forth from one cylinder space to the other by reversing the driving air via corresponding control members. In the striking direction of the piston (3), the air situated in said cylinder space (4) is pushed out of the latter until the piston (3) strikes the striking bush (6). In the return direction of the piston (3) its reversal of movement is brought about by a corresponding air cushion which builds up at the right time in the cylinder space (5) there.
