摘要 PURPOSE:To measure the mean particle diameter of an injected fuel by receiving light passing all the fuel particles of the injected fuel by an image sensor and, based on its output signals, obtaining the mean particle diameter from am difference between the intensity of light that does not pass the fuel particles and that of the light passing all the fuel particles and a fuel injection quantity. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 8 is collected by a condenser lens 9, passes a pin hole 10 and advances toward a convex lens 12 while dispersing. The light is made parallel rays by the lens 12 and collected by a convex lens 13 via a glass plate 3, a high pressure chamber 5 and other glass plate 4. The light further passes an opening 14 and reaches an image sensor 6. The intensity of light detected by the pixels of the sensor 16 is stored in a frame memory 17 and supplied to an electronic control unit 18 via an input port 23 to be processed. A fuel injection valve 6 comprises a pressure sensor 25 and a needle lift sensor 26, which detect a fuel injection pressure and the lift amount of a needle and detected values are supplied to the unit 18 via A/D converters 27 and 28, respectively. A mean particle diameter is measured from a difference between the intensity of light that does not pass fuel particles and that of light passing all the fuel particles, and a fuel injection quantity in the unit 18.
