PURPOSE:To improve power efficiency, by applying the outputs of DC power sources having different voltages and output impedances to a discharge tube in parallel. CONSTITUTION:The voltage V0' of a DC power source 11' is higher than the voltage V0 of a DC power source 11. A resistor 2 (resistance value is R) and a diode 4 are connected to the power source 11 in series. A resistor 2' (resistance value is R') is connected to the power source 11' in series. The voltages are applied to the gas tube 3. The performance characteristics of this circuit are expressed by characteristic straight lines R and R' of the resistors 2 and 2' and a performance curve T of the gas discharge laser tube. Q is an intersection of the straight lines R and R'. VQ and IQ are the voltage and current of the point Q. The progress from the start of discharge to the operating point P is moved in the sequence of V0', the line R', the point Q, the line R, and the point P. The conditions for the characteristics are as follows: (1) V0' is higher than VS; (2) R intersects with T at the point P; (3) the point Q is located high than the curve T; and (4) the straight line V0'Q and the straight line QP are located higher than the curve T. The power source voltage V0' and the resistance values R and R' are selected so as to satisfy said conditions. |
