PURPOSE:To uniformly cool a steel plate without causing the deformation and uneven quality of the plate, by adjusting the nozzle angles and/or opening and closing, etc. of lower-surface nozzles jetting water for cooling the plate, and preventing the splashing up of water for cooling the lower surface of the upper surface of the plate. CONSTITUTION:In cooling by using nozzles, which jets water in the form of laminar flow onto the upper surface of a steel plate and spread out on the lower surface for the main purpose of improving the quality of the plate, the splashing up of water for cooling the lower surface from the front and rear ends and from both sides of the plate is prevented and the cooling velocity at the sides of end part of the plate is accelerated by adjusting the nozzle angles and opening and closing of the nozzles, thereby enhancing the strength of the plate and preventing the plate from lowering toughness and deformation. The direction of water injection of a nozzle 2-1 of a lower nozzle 2 against the plate 1 which is passing on rolls 3 is slanted by an angle theta to the advancing direction of the plate, and a nozzle 2-2 is pointed upright. Further, the distance between the center of the nozzle and the edge of the plate is properly set to prevent the water splashing from both sides. |
