In a cutting machine, a stop plate for the material to be cut is adjustable, plane-parallel to the plane of a disc cutter (3), on opposite sides via guide webs (11) extending obliquely with respect to the adjusting direction and counter-webs (12) for setting the size of the cut. The counter-webs (12) are situated on a slide (4) which is in driving connection, via a pin (5), with a groove (7), extending in the form of a spiral, in a setting knob mounted rotatably on the housing. To be able to detach the stop plate by its guides (11) from the counter-webs (12) without the need for special assembly work, the groove (7) has a radially extending portion (6). This radial portion (6) is situated at the inner end of the groove (7) and points, when the stop plate is pushed out towards the cutter (3), in the adjusting direction of the slide (4). In this position, the slide (4) can be manually displaced so that the pin (5) moves into the portion (6). As a result, the counter-webs (12) are detached from the guide webs (11), so that the stop plate can be removed freely at the front. <IMAGE>
