The apparatus, intended to deliver, individually, pieces in the form of rods, comprises a hopper (14) whose base has an elongate exit opening in which agitation plates (59) can execute vertical alternating movements. A plunger (102) for ejecting the pieces (T) passes between the agitation plates (59), below the exit opening, in order to bring the pieces (T) individually onto a reception device (20) from which they can descend on a track (102) towards a dispenser (24). This apparatus may be used for handling thermometer tubes. <IMAGE>
