A loop lifter for continuous strip rolling mills has an arm which is journalled in a support for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis. An end portion of the arm carries a freely turnable roll which can engage a loop from below and lift it upwardly. A counter balancing spring reacts between a fixed pivot and the arm and assures that the pivot shaft for the arm is not subject to any free torque during pivoting movement of the arm between 0 DEG and 90 DEG of arc.
