<p>A process for producing citric acid according to claims 1-8 of the Parent Patent is claimed, with the improvement that the sugar soln. added to the fermenter contains 10-15% sugar and at least 0.5% of a mixt of NH4NO3, MgSO4 and KH2PO4. N.B. The Parent Patent discloses a process in which sterile air is continuously injected into the fermenter to maintain the fermentation medium in circulation. When the process is operated under optimum conditions, it is stated to be possible to obtain a 50-100% improvement in citric acid yield over conventional processes.</p> |
