To improve the quality of electrophoretically printed colour images, surplus toner suspensions of different colour used are removed from the intermediate image carrier and are conducted to separate collecting reservoirs. To this end, a straight upper edge (5), of an air duct (21) forms a narrow gap in conjuction with the intermediate image carrier (1). Through this gap air is forced to direct the surplus toner suspension from the intermediate image carrier to a collecting reservoir (8) via a wiper (6) and a chute (7). A separate chute and a separate reservoir are provided for each toner suspension, and the chutes can be selectively positioned so that the upper end of a selected chute is located underneath the wiper and its lower end is located over an associated reservoir. <IMAGE>
