<p>Reducing agent consumption in a smelting unit, esp. a blast furnace, is reduced by replacing the normal blast by off-gas which is pre-heated, pref. using a plasma torch, after bleeding off part of the gas in amt. depending on furnace operating conditions. By bleeding off part of the gas, accumulation of oxygen in the recycled gas is avoided so that the expensive decarbonation step of the parent patent process can be eliminated. Additionally, the content of inert components in the gas is maintained at a very low level.</p> |
